Dear SIT Members,

Yes, the SIT and ECI abstract and travel award deadline is upon us (April 28th). I hope the hard work you have all been doing to get something coherent together pays off. Hawaii is just around the corner.

I try to use such deadlines to provide the final push to get things finished. There are always more experiments to be done, but putting together your scientific story to present at the summer conferences is well worth it. As we all know, research can be disheartening; when a paper is rejected, a grant not funded, or an experiment fails. But, there is hope - and much of it can be found at professional meetings. Later on in this newsletter, you will see a whole host of upcoming conferences - PTCOG, ERRS, AAPM, ASTRO and more. Many of them are still accepting abstract submissions. Conferences are a great way to give your research and yourself a good scientific boost. You can learn from others' experiences with your scientific method, give advice, and even feel like an expert in your own field.

I know it can be difficult sometimes to prepare something comprehensive, as it all depends on where one is in their current experiments or clinical trial. But I think it's always worth preparing something, even if the only benefit is to create more concrete experimental hypotheses.

Conferences are also a good way to promote you as well as your research expertise. As SITs, we are often looking for jobs post-PhD. Whether it is a postdoc, faculty position or industry job, conference networking is an excellent way to find your potential employer and make a name for yourself in your respective field.

On that note, all the best in your abstract submissions for RRS 2016!

BECOME PART OF THE RRS PODCAST/VODCAST TEAM!
The RRS podcast/vodcast team is always looking for new volunteers to help put together interviews, suggest topics, and more. Want to be a part of the action - contact marketing@radres.org today!
The SIT committee is now accepting nominations for the SIT Excellence in Mentoring Award. Many of us have made the experience that good mentorship is mandatory for a sound career development.

If you believe your mentor deserves recognition for their work in guiding early career scientists, please send a nomination letter detailing your nominee and their contributions for consideration to t.friedrich@gsi.de. Keep in mind that mentors can be nominated by multiple people. We look forward to receiving your nominations.
The RRS Awards and Honors Committee is accepting award nominations until April 15, 2016. Please consider nominating your colleagues and mentors for: Failla, Jack Fowler, Michael Fry, J.W. Osborne, Distinguished Service, and Honorary Membership awards. Also SIT members can nominate colleagues or mentors - check out the award criteria here! For nominations contact the RRS office.

The Radiation Research Society invites nominations from Full or Emeritus Members to allow selection of a candidate for the office of Vice-President-Elect, and for two candidates for Councilor-at-Large with terms beginning at the Annual Meeting in Waikoloa, Hawaii - OCTOBER 2016. Officer nominations start by April 20th and are due in the RRS office no later than the close of business MDT on May 27, 2016.
