A series of
proposed Constitutional Amendments has been developed by the Constitution and
Bylaws Committee chaired by John Zimbrick. These have been presented to
the Executive Committee and to the Governing Council. I am now distributing
them to you and all other members of RRS at least three weeks prior to the
annual meeting, as specified in the Constitution. There will be an opportunity
for discussion at the Business Meeting at noon on Monday,
September 16th in New Orleans. Subsequently, within 8 weeks of the meeting, all Full and
Emeritus Members will vote online for approval or rejection of the final
versions of the amendments. It is anticipated that this will be a series
of votes on individual amendments, with some clustering for related
items. Approval of each amendment requires an affirmative vote of at
least two-thirds of the Members voting.

Constitutional Amendments on the RRS website.
amendments include addition of a new class of Membership (Honorary); minor
editorial changes that do not materially alter the Constitution or the
operation of the Society; and addition of a new section on Contingency
Procedures that allows the Society to continue operation in the face of
requested that you review these documents and come to the Business Meeting
prepared to discuss them. Given the fact that most voting members will not be
able to attend the Business Meeting, it is anticipated that an online
discussion board will be open during the 8 weeks between the meeting and the
launch of the vote, so as to provide an opportunity for wider discussion and
sharing of views.
very much for taking the time to review the proposed amendments prior to the
RRS business meeting in New Orleans.
