This article offers purpose to the Rad Women movement! In short summery, it concluded that exposing young women to female role models, highly influences their decision to pursue that field of study.

Read article

What do you do to help promote the radiation sciences to women? Did you have a role model that helped you?

Even when women outnumber men, gender bias persists among science undergrad

This study, conducted at Colorado State University (home to our current RRS President, Dr. Susan Bailey), relates that representation should not be confused with equality.

"In physical science classes -- where women are more traditionally underrepresented -- women were indeed outnumbered, and they had higher average GPAs, statistically higher course grades, and were 1.5 times more likely to earn an A or A-plus than men. However, the researchers found that both men and women presumed that the men in the class outperformed the women."

What do you think may be some solutions to gender bias outside of representation?

Read article

Gender bias kept alive by those who think it's dead

This new study, published in Science Advances, is surprising and poignant when it comes to gender bias. One of the most surprising was this discovery:

"Two thirds of the managers who thought gender bias no longer existed were men. However, female managers with this opinion undervalued female staff just as much as male managers, according to the study’s findings."

This means we not only need to consider the male perception of equality, but the female as well. What has become normal? What shouldn't be?

We recommend reading the full article as it has several interesting points!

Read the article

Is "mommy brain" a real thing?

We found this article very interesting as it addresses the idea of "mommy brain", where mothers are said to be less attentive and forgetful. It explains how previous studies on the subject may be inaccurate, how they performed their own study (published in Current Psychology) and how "mommy brain" may even be a cultural phenomenon.

Read the Article
