The Future of Low Dose Radiation Research: Dr. Gayle Woloschak Presents at Congressional Hearing

Dr. Gayle Woloschak, past president of RRS, presented to the Subcommittee on Energy November 1, 2017 to advocate for continued low dose radiation research funding.

According to the hearing charter, the Department of Energy ended its low dose program in 2016, despite the apparent need for continued research. Currently, there is a lack of consensus within the scientific community on the specific health risks associated with exposure to low doses of ionizing radiation. This gap in understanding has profound implications for U.S. medical, industrial, commercial, and defense-related activities.

Dr. Woloschak, Professor of Radiation Oncology at Northwestern University, spoke alongside Mr. John Neumann of the Government Accountability Office and Dr. James Brink, Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School and Radiologist-in-Chief at Massachusetts General Hospital.
