Dear SIT Community,

I hope that everyone is doing well and staying safe. I do not remember when the entire world was last struggling and dealing with a problem as indiscriminate and pervasive as the current pandemic (COVID-19). The pandemic has affected most of us not only financially, but also physically and mentally. Overnight things took a turn for the worst; suddenly workplaces became empty, streets became deserted, and our rooms became offices.

Although the transition likely has not been smooth for any of us, somehow, we found a way to survive and keep pushing science forward. Many of you are graduating or finishing up a postdoc and wondering what's next! Many places are not hiring due to uncertainties at most academic institutions and industries. However, this also offers an opportune moment to take a step back and evaluate our priorities and future goals. Now might be the right time to go back to an old data set for a WOW moment, reconnect with old friends, or strengthen the bond with our loved ones. Current times are testing our commitment to science, our responsibility as ordinary citizens, and our ability to take care of the people we love. As many epidemiologists, scientists, and experts are saying, "It will get worse before it gets better." Based on recent data, Europe and some Asian countries are doing much better than the US in handling the pandemic. Regardless of geography, none of us are still out of the woods. So, let's follow social distancing guidelines, stay optimistic, and do our best!

Please register for the RRS meeting if you have not done so already. We are putting together an exciting virtual SIT workshop, and you will be able to see the topics of the SIT workshop soon. Remember, the SIT committee works for you, so do not hesitate to reach out with your questions or concerns.

With wishes of safety for you and your loved ones,

Rutul Patel
